I’ve been not blogging much in the last couple months. Why is that? Let’s see, running the club fundraiser, vehicle troubles, transitioning to a new job. Pick one, but they all have played a part in my lack of activations in the last few months.
I did hit Zepernick SWA (K-9522) pretty hard this month in order to finish my Kilo. The next local park on my hit list was Quail Hollow Park (K-1987), in nearby Hartville. It’s one of two “State Parks” on the Ohio lists that are actually managed locally. In Quail Hollow’s case, management comes from Stark Parks, who does an amazing job of managing parks here in Stark County.
So, I’ve been out to Quail Hollow Park a few times in the last week (May 8-12, 2023). Conditions on HF were Horrible on Monday & Tuesday, but by Friday, had recovered somewhat. Still, I only managed 53 contacts this week. This brings me to 343 contacts; 657 left to go.
This week, I’ll be heading to Hamvention. I may take the day before the big event to knock a few more parks off my list. I’ll decide once I get to Caesar Creek SP on Wednesday.
My portable station at this time consists of a Yaesu FT-891, driving a Yaesu ATAS-120A Mobile antenna. The ATAS is a really sweet antenna that will tune any frequency from 40-6 Meters.
That’s all I have today. I hope to work you on the air! 73 DE WG8X
